MAPA Golf Grand Final Tropicana Golf & Country Resort 15th December 2009

The day finally arrived for the anticipated MAPA's Grand Final golf tournament and the finish to the Race to Joburg points. Most of the top guns were present for the chance to lift the inaugural 'Champion Golfer' crystal trophy sponsored by MAPA. Everyone were in high spirits in the morning for breakfast at the Tropicana's golf terrace.

Little did they know what awaited them as Tropicana's tricky layout can be a challenge for the first timers. An unexpected drive could spell either OB or pond if you cut the dogleg wrongly, anyway that was what I found out...now where was that practice game again??? However the never give up attitude powered everyone to give their best only to find out once again someone else had played better.

It was no surprise as in the end, our very own president Ammirul Haidir posted the Best Gross score of 82 to beat the entire field and left everyone applauding his excellent play. Now I wonder if we were playing the same golf course he was. Nonetheless hats off bro, well played. To add to his bounty Ammirul bagged the Best overall Joburg points winning 4 out of the 7 tournaments held, I wonder what's next? Everest??? Anyway kudos to the other players too especially Sean who came up tops to lift the Best Nett with a nett score of 72. To the rest, I guess try harder next year and a special thanks to Capt Najme for helping us organise the game at his home club. We will take stock and improve on the points system and bring you guys different golf courses to play on for next year. 6th MAPA Get Together Game Kajang Hill Golf Club 9th November 2009

Eager to play, come on now...

The 6th edition of our golf get together was held at Kajang Hill golf club and we managed to attract a more diversified group this time around. Among them are Helen Sim from cabin crew our first female participant, newcomer Aifiq and his dad Nizam (Ex-MAS) to join in our event. The weather was not too hot but the course played tough. Well tough for some easy for others perhaps? In the end Helen won the best nett with a score of 71. What happened to you guys??? As always we 'male' golfers have a good excuse after all chivalry is not dead and we were being perfect gentlemen...I let you decide...anyhow congrats Helen well played.

The best gross went to none other than our team captain Megat Abdullah while Ammirul Haidir grabbed maximum Joburg points to extend his lead to the year's end grand finale tournament in Sungai Long Golf & Country Club, which will be held on the 15th of December 2009. So all you MAPA members, kindly request for your off day and submit your name latest by 1st December to get the opportunity to play at the Jack Nicklaus designed golf course because slots are limited. Race to Joburg Hots Up!!!

The race to Joburg hots up as we reach the end of the year with only two more games remaining. Holding the lead since the inception of our monthly get together games, is our very own president of MAPA golf Ammirul Haidir. He is being chased closely by other MAPA members among notables is Azlin, last year's MAS Masters 3rd best gross. It will be a fight to the finish, so please join us this Monday 9th November 2009 and earn your Joburg points....

5th MAPA Golf Get Together Game Monterez 16th October 2009

After our recent letdown, the committee members decided to quickly organise the monthly get together game for us to get some of our mojo back. We decided to move the venue north to encourage other players to join in the event. We succeeded and managed to draw in M.Shukri, Arian and Lee FW. So the scene was set for a Friday morning tee off at the Monterez Golf and Country Club in which some of our players are 'resident pros', but of course I'm not one of them. Haha..

Wow, these guys are good!!!

Nice benign conditions with low clouds made it an enjoyable affair, where we rediscovered our golf skills which deserted us in our last outing. In the end our resident pro Shukri @ Sean grabbed the best nett title and the best gross went to another resident pro 'wannabe' with a score of 78. We had a great time and the main objective of getting newcomers to join the get together was achieved. Thank you for coming boys and until next month, enjoy the pics....

Aero Cup 2009

The Aero Cup

30th September 2009 - The morning was set up for a classic showdown between MAPA and AirAsia for the chance to lift the inaugural 'Aero Cup'. The objective of the event is to foster better ties between both organizations. The game was held at Staffield GR and with only a few days after raya, most players were rusty due to the fasting month or by just having too much lemangs and ketupats in the system. The points system was based on a group format taking in total gross scores from everyone which made handicaps irrelevant with no individual glory. Every player had to contribute their scores, double bogeys and all because it was a team event.

Mark Oi and Ammirul conducted a tournament briefing before the sound of the siren horn marked the start of the shot gun tee off. It was a fun filled atmosphere with each flight having pairs of players from MAPA and AirAsia. The psychological warfare began but eventually only the golf skills could decide the outcome of the scores. In the end, after a dramatic battle the results were announced during lunch, unfortunately not in favour of our side. Congratulations to AirAsia and to our boys "Better win it next year guys!!!"
